Pastoral DreamsThe Chinese New Year is celebrated on 5th February 2019 and it is the Year of Pig. It is an occasion for Chinese families to gather together and celebrate with a reunion dinner. LiLi will be celebrating with his 86 year old mother in China. We are honoured that his daughter Amanda will be in the gallery for his opening to represent her father and his work.

Lukasz Ograbek is not afraid to say it how he feels;
“The idea for this series was born when I saw a three colour veneer panel installation costing a small fortune a while back, coated with “hand ground gesso, rabbit skin glue, unicorns horn oil” and more otherworldly mixtures. It was so soulless, numbing and generic, mainstream orientated, not forgetting to mention that Mondrian did it and so much better.
The whole thing created a revolt in my brain and heart!
As the universe unravelled itself by pure chance, within a week I came across a set of 20 or so veneer doors from a 1940s kitchen. I had to take this opportunity to prove a few points.”

As part of the 10th Annual Emerging Artist Awards, John Scott, Chairman of the The Upstairs Gallery BOT will lead a discussion on empathy.
John has a special interest in the area of empathy and will lead an interactive, open discussion.
John completed his accreditation with GENOS in Emotional Intelligence and will explore the concept of empathy in a world where it is becoming a lost quality, introducing ways to increase our empathy for others in our day to day and work lives.
