2023-07-21 Throughout Worlds
You are invited to experience the 'Worlds' of three emerging artists, each respectively exploring space, colour, subject and form. Through philosophy, abstraction and still life, a syncretism of ideas and styles is combined throughout each artist's different yet inter-connected Worlds. The Artist's collective aim is to provoke discussion and thought around contemporary painting and its relationship to philosophy and the processes of life and nature in the world we live in. Each Artist has a formal background in visual arts, and also have a family connection.

Tanisha Lovell
My work is inspired by stories, whether derived from history or complete fantasy, I want to offer a window into another time and place. I aim to combine traditional techniques and styles from eras past added with a modern flair. I seek to capture the elegance of classical aesthetic and provoke a sense of transportation.
Andre Lay
I am an artist & musician who has studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at AUT. Over the years I have been influenced by Renaissance artists, non-dual experiences & meditations on human suffering.
Painting for me is a tool that conveys ways of thinking that cannot be explained well through words.
Here are my reflections on the experience and completion of these works;
Vast suffering and the infinite field that it takes place within.
Metaphysical maps of the human experience of violent entanglement.
Understanding the dream of darkness.
Billy Medland-Parker
My name is Billy Medland-Parker and I am part of the Group Show 'Through Out Worlds'. I have a formal background in Painting, completing my Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design at Unitec Institute of Technology in 2014.
I like to explore space with a spontaneous and whimsical nature, where I develop a world which contains relics and shrines strewn beneath towering terraced structures of a Seuss like aesthetic. My paintings often allude to the imagery of the family board game 'Snakes and Ladders', where the ladder represents a place to ascend and the snake like palm forms are found beneath the terraces. I am drawn to such themes because they are both whimsical and serious at the same time, and invite the viewer to explore and wonder through each painting.
Through careful brush strokes and abstract gestures made during the initial stage of each painting, there is a deterministic effect made on the final composition. In this sense there is a combination of spontaneity and discipline involved in reaching each works final composition. A geological process is also found in the physical aspect of making each painting; it is a 'Sedimentary process', where layers are built upon from a blank surface to create terraced forms or 'Surreal Geology', through a surrealist mode of free association and alchemy.
Each Artist in this show brings you their own unique 'World' through the medium of painting. Themes and styles interweave throughout the landscape of this Exhibition, and we hope you enjoy the combination of our three worlds together and find something insightful and interesting in each painting.
